Career Fair Do’s and Don’ts

This video presents some practical, simple advice about career fairs. For example, avoid frustration by applying only for positions you’re genuinely qualified for and interested in – don’t just look for companies with open positions.

    • Resumes or thank-you notes with errors convey inadequate level of attention to details
  • Apply for positions you’re genuinely qualified for and interested in
    • Don’t just apply for “whatever” or all the open positions at a company
  • Be prepared to state very quickly who you are, where you’re coming from, what you’ve done, and what you’re looking for
    • Make a good impression, i.e., professional, have the right skills
    • Ask what you need to do to get your name/resume noticed
    • Don’t assume you’re going to get an interview on the spot
  • Research the companies beforehand and show that you’ve don’t your homework
    • Don’t ask recruiters what the company does, since this implies lack of preparation
