The advancement of machine learning is staggering. It’s increasingly clear that technology can excel and effectively replace human endeavor in frequent high-volume tasks. But, as Anthony Goldbloom notes, “the fundamental limitation of machine learning is that it needs to learn from large volumes of past data.”

Computers are fantastic for situations that involve decision-making based on precedent. But, humans can function better than machines when it comes to novel situations.

 Thus, the future state of any job depends on a simple question: “To what extent is that job reduceable to frequent high-volume tasks and to what extent does it involve tackling novel situations?”
