What Are Your Weaknesses? — Tech Style

The host, a ruby developer, provides guidance on the “weakness” question from a coder’s perspective. Although not a fan of the inquiry, as it a lose-lose proposition, he lays out some sample answers.

Some bad answers (and their potential impact) include that you:

  • Have a hard time saying “no” (indicates you’re timid)
  • Can’t stay on task (poor focus)
  • Are arrogant (poor team member)

Good strategies (but, be sure to include explanations) include that you:

  • Are slow to act (because you’re detailed and methodical)
  • Are overly self-critical (but working on improving and not getting too down on yourself for irrelevant reasons)
  • Tend to be quiet (because it’s more important to listen, before giving an answer)
